And The Oscar Goes Too...

It's that time of the year again where stars and filmmakers begin receiving awards and nominations for their work throughout 2013.

While there are many different awards given by several organizations, few ceremonies match the prestige of the Primetime Emmys, the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards.

These award shows highlight several different areas within the entertainment industry, rewarding their winners with fame and fortune. Each year competition seems to get stronger, as cinema and television continue to produce meaningful, creative and provocative works.

This year was no different, as several powerful and touching films were produced. The Oscar nominated films for best picture this year were: Gravity, 12 Years A Slave, Philomena, American Hustle, Nebraska, Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club, The Wolf of Wall Street and Her.

While I haven't seen all of these movies, the ones I've seen are absolutely breathtaking, and are relevant to current world issues.

American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street deal with greed, ripping people off and survival. Both films showcase powerhouse performances from their leading roles, with Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street) creating his most memorable performance yet.

12 Years A Slave is a gut wrenching, heartbreaking and unnerving viewing experience. Depicting the true story of the atrocities of slavery and one man’s story of survival and freedom.

Her another powerhouse film, captures societies dependency and love for technology. Analyzing how we have started to drift away from human interaction and moved toward digital relationships.

The films nominated for best picture this year provide a great look on society today and the problems we face now and in the future.
